Franz Weiß (pharmacist)

Franz Weiß (born February 7, 1868 in St. Blasien , † April 26, 1946 in Waldkirch ) was a German pharmacist .

Life

White, the son of a top civil servant who attended in Freiburg , the school and began 1884 in Waldkirch pharmaceutical teaching. In 1887 he passed the assistant examination. He then worked as an assistant in Switzerland and Friborg. In 1890 he attended the University of Freiburg , where he finished his studies in pharmacy with the state examination in 1892. He then continued his studies and obtained his doctorate in 1894 with his thesis “On the anhydroesters of alpha-amino acids and a synthesis of mercapturic acids”.

He then worked as a chemical assistant at the Wroclaw Medical Clinic for two years. White resumed pharmaceutical activities as administrator of the pharmacy in Göhrwihl (1896–1898) and as head of the pharmacy of the Badische Heil- und Pflegeanstalt Emmendingen (1898–1901). In the same year he was appointed head of the pharmacy at the Academic Hospital in Heidelberg , which he held until 1933.

At the suggestion of Albrecht Kossel , Weiß worked for about ten years alongside his pharmacist work in the Physiological Institute. He published various articles in the field of protein chemistry in medical journals and in the journal for physiological chemistry. His investigations focused on the structure of the protein molecules and the isolation of the breakdown products. Weiß, who always showed a keen interest in all professional questions, was a pharmacy auditor and a member of the examination commission for the pharmaceutical preliminary examination and for the pharmaceutical examination.
