Franz Windisch

Franz Windisch (born December 9, 1957 in Vienna ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and farmer. He is chairman of the Viennese farmers' union and president of the Vienna Chamber of Agriculture . From May 2012 to October 2013 he was a member of the Austrian National Council .

education and profession

Windisch attended elementary school in Oberlaa between 1964 and 1968 and then switched to the secondary school of the school brothers in Fünfhaus . From 1972 he graduated from the Higher Agricultural College Francisco-Josephinum in Wieselburg , where he passed the Matura in 1977 in the subject "Agriculture". In addition to his training, Windisch attended an agricultural internship in the teaching company in Schranawand in 1975, and in 1976 he was elected head of the Francisco-Josephinum. In 1979 he started his own business as a farmer in Unterlaa , doing arable farming and is active in the machine ring and in the professional representation. In 1984 he was awarded the professional title of engineer and in 2013 he received the professional title of economics councilor.

Politics and functions

In 1995 Windisch was elected to the board of the beet farmers' association for Lower Austria and Vienna, where he represents the Vienna beet farmers. In 1998 he became a councilor of the Vienna Chamber of Agriculture and chairman of the “Technical Committee for General Agriculture” as well as a member of the “Control Committee” and a member of the “Press Committee” of the Vienna Chamber of Agriculture. He is also a member of the “Agriculture Committee” of the President's Conference of the Chambers of Agriculture and between 1999 and 2000 acted as deputy chairman of the “Provincial Agency Committee of Vienna” of the social insurance institution for farmers. In 2001 he became a member of the “Performance Committee Lower Austria / Vienna” of the social insurance institute for farmers and member of the board of directors of the Beet Farmers Association Lower Austria / Vienna. Windisch held the position of deputy chairman of the Viennese farmers' union from 2000 to 2005 and became its chairman in 2005. In addition, he was Vice-President of the Vienna Chamber of Agriculture from 2003 and took over the office of President of the Vienna Chamber of Agriculture in April 2008. In addition, he has been a board member of the Eco-Social Forum Vienna since 2005 and a member of the supervisory board of the Austrian hail insurance company since April 2012 .

Windisch was sworn in on May 16, 2012 as the successor to Ferdinand Maier as a member of the National Council, where he accepted a mandate in constituency 9 - Vienna .

Private

Windisch has been married since 1983. He is the father of three sons who were born in 1984, 1986 and 1992, respectively.
