Franz Xaver Schöpfer (pharmacist)

Franz Xaver Schöpfer (baptized December 3, 1778 in Innsbruck ; † October 11, 1855 there ) was an Austrian pharmacist, physician and natural scientist .

The son of the Innsbruck court pharmacist Mathäus Michael Schöpfer received his doctorate in medicine from the University of Innsbruck in 1801 . Franz Xaver Schöpfer studied chemistry, botany and natural history at the University of Vienna with Joseph Franz von Jacquin and Peter Jordan . From 1806 Schöpfer taught chemistry, pharmaceutics and natural history at the University of Innsbruck as an associate professor. In 1822, Schöpfer obtained a master's degree in pharmacy from the University of Padua . After the death of his father, he took over the Innsbruck court pharmacy . From 1828 to 1839 Schöpfer was also vice rector of the Innsbruck grammar school and from 1838 to 1848 magistrate.

The Innsbruck Botanical Garden was founded in 1793 under the direction of Franx Xaver Schöpfer and Johann Nepomuk Laicharding . In 1805, Schöpfer published Flora Oenipontana, a botanical description of Innsbruck and its surroundings.
