Franz Xaver Wagner (born February 28, 1809 in Laufenburg ; † January 10, 1879 there ; entitled to live in Laufenburg) was a Swiss politician . From 1850 to 1852 he was Councilor of the Canton of Aargau . He was also known as a poet under the pseudonym Wagner von Laufenburg .

biography

Wagner received his education in Laufenburg, Solothurn , Aarau and Geneva . He then studied theology and philology at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau . But then he turned to law ; he studied this at the University of Tübingen , where Ludwig Uhland was one of his professors. After passing the state examination, he worked as a government secretary from 1832.

In addition to his work as a secretary, Wagner spent his free time writing poetry. These were partly lyrical, but also romantic and ballad-like. From 1844 he worked as a council clerk for the Aargau cantonal government. Five years later, he turned down the offer to become a district administrator in Laufenburg, but was elected to the cantonal government by the Grand Council in 1850 . He was a member of this until 1852, after which he resumed his previous activity as a council clerk in order to have more time available for his real passion, poetry.
