Franz von Beust

Franz Joseph Freiherr von Beust (born August 6, 1776 in Rastatt ; † December 30, 1858 in Karlsruhe ) was Chamberlain and Major General of Baden .

origin

He came from the Catholic lineage of the ancient noble family of Barons von Beust . His parents were Lieutenant Colonel and Chamberlain Karl Ludwig Josef von Beust (1734–1792) and his second wife Maria Anna, née Countess von Zedtwitz .

Life

Beust first visited the Kadettenhau and in 1792 joined the Leib Grenadier Regiment of the Baden Army as a second lieutenant . During the First Coalition War , he fought in the Netherlands and was captured by a Hanoverian-Baden unit. He then remained in French captivity for 18 months. In the war of 1805 he was staff captain in the Jäger Battalion, from 1806 to 1807 captain in the infantry regiment "Harrant". In 1809 he was transferred to the "Hochberg" No. 3 body infantry regiment. At the Battle of Wagram Beust was General Legrand's orderly officer . In 1814, as a lieutenant colonel , he led a battalion of the Leib-Grenadier-Guard in the Wars of Liberation . Especially in the battle of Paris on March 31st, he was able to distinguish himself. Shortly afterwards he was promoted to colonel and commander of the Leib Grenadier Guard, which he also led in the 1815 campaign.

In 1832 he was appointed commander of the 1st Infantry Brigade, but retired that same year at his own request. He spent his last years in Karlsruhe, in 1847 he was appointed major general before he died on December 30, 1858.
