Franz Freiherr von Soden

Baron Franz Ludwig Karl Julius von Soden (born August 12, 1790 in Kitzingen , † October 17, 1869 in Nuremberg ) was a German lieutenant colonel and Nuremberg historian and knight of the Legion of Honor .

origin

His parents were Johann Karl August von Soden (* March 31, 1756; † January 26, 1811) and his wife Freiin Sophie Susanne Charlotte, née Drechsel on Deuffstetten (* August 28, 1755).

Life

From 1804 to 1808, Soden attended grammar schools in Nuremberg, Ansbach and Würzburg and, after studying medicine at Altdorf University for six months , entered the royal Sondershausen military service in 1811 . From 1812 to 1815 he took part in the campaigns to Russia, the Netherlands and France. At the end of 1815 he was appointed captain . After Soden lost his right arm in a duel in 1825, he moved to Nuremberg. There he married Karoline Jakobine von Scheurl in 1828, the daughter of the assessor at the city court Johann Christian Wilhelm von Scheurl on Vorra. In 1835 he was awarded the character as a Major , 1863 as a lieutenant colonel. Since his stay in Nuremberg, he has dealt with perseverance and success with the history of this city.

He had access to the family archives of the Scheurl family , whose ancestors included the humanist Christoph Scheurl .
