Friedrich Franz Adolf von Stephani (born June 12, 1876 in Bielefeld , † April 24, 1939 in Berlin ) was a German officer , Freikorps leader and politician (NSDAP).

Life

Stephani was the son of the Prussian general of the infantry Louis von Stephani (1843-1916) and his wife Marie, née Mensing. In 1895 he became a lieutenant in the Prussian army and in 1904 transferred as first lieutenant to the Imperial Protection Force for Cameroon . In 1905 he was transferred to the protection force for German South West Africa and assigned to the field survey team. In 1907 he was assigned to the Foreign Office , in 1908 to the newly formed Reich Colonial Office (until 1910), he acted as a commissioner in the Yola-Lake Chad border expedition in Cameroon and in 1907/08 as a member (1908/09 as leader) of the Yola Cross Rapid Expedition. In 1912 he can be verified as leader of the 8th Company of the Imperial Protection Force for Cameroon. As early as April 20, 1910, he was promoted to redundant captain (January 27, 1911 patent granted). Since February 1, 1913 he was resident in Ngaundere . In August 1914 he resigned from the protection force and was employed in the army in a mobile formation . During the First World War he took part in a reserve infantry regiment. On January 27, 1917, he was promoted to major , most recently in the 1st Guard Regiment on foot .

During the Spartacus uprising in January 1919, Stephani was the commander of the Potsdam regiment . Together with Hermann Ehrhardt , he founded the Association of Nationally Minded Soldiers in 1920 . Later he was the national leader of the steel helmet in Berlin and after the same leader of the SA reserve I. He was a legal knight of the Order of St. John and from 1929 deputy chairman of the association of officers, medical officers and senior officials of the former Imperial Protection Force for Cameroon. Since November 12, 1933, he was a member of the Reichstag for the NSDAP for the 9th and 10th electoral periods of the Weimar Republic (= 2nd and 3rd electoral periods of the National Socialist Reichstag).
