Fred Rodrian

Fred Rodrian (born July 14, 1926 in Berlin ; † May 25, 1985 ibid) was a German publishing director and children's book author .

Fred Rodrian was the son of a book printer and completed an apprenticeship as a reproduction photographer . After military service (1944/45) and captivity , he became a member of the SED and the FDJ in 1946, and from 1946 to 1952 he worked as an FDJ functionary in the field of cultural policy. From 1952 to 1955 he was an editor and then until 1974 chief editor at Kinderbuchverlag Berlin , which he led as director from 1975 until his death. Rodrian studied 1957/1958 at the literary institute "Johannes R. Becher" in Leipzig and 1970/1971 cultural politics at the Hans Marchwitza School of the Central Committee of the SED.

Since 1958 he has also been writing stories for children himself, which were illustrated by Werner Klemke , among others , and published in West Germany. He also wrote scripts, among others together with Anneliese Kocialek for the DEFA - fairy tale film Das Feuerzeug .

Rodrian was a corresponding member of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the GDR .
