Frederick Collins
Archie Frederick Collins (born January 8, 1869 in South Bend , Indiana , † January 3, 1952 in Nyack , New York ) was an American inventor and author.
Frederick Collins stated that he invented the first wireless telephony transmission in 1899 , with which voice signals could be transmitted without the cable connection that was necessary up until then. He founded the Collins Wireless Telephone Company in 1903 and received a patent for his invention in 1906. In 1908 he broadcast a radio program from Newark, New Jersey , which the audience could hear with a receiver installed in the LS Plaut & Co department store.
He was imprisoned in the United States Penitentiary, Atlanta from January 1913 to January 1914 for improper business conduct in connection with the securities trade for his company ( conspiracy and using mail to defraud ) .
In addition to his work in radio frequency engineering, Collins also authored numerous popular science books on various technical fields.
