Nocturne is an experimental film by the director and then a student at the Danish Film School Lars von Trier from 1980. The images in the 8-minute film are designed in red tones, predominantly blue tones, or, in the last part of the film, black and white.

Shown in her apartment is a woman who cannot sleep and is talking on the phone with acquaintances. She has a flight ticket for the next morning at 6:10 am from Copenhagen to Buenos Aires. At 6:10 am she stands on the roof of a building and looks at a flock of birds.

Nocturne received first prize at the Festival of Film Schools in Munich. According to the film scholar Peter Schepelern, who was once a professor at Trier, the Trier award created a unique position at the film school and laid the foundation for a career in which von Trier could do whatever he wanted.
