Frederick McCoy
Frederick McCoy (* 1817 in Dublin , † May 16, 1899 in Melbourne ) was a British paleontologist .
McCoy went to school in Dublin and later studied medicine in Cambridge , England . In 1850 McCoy became professor of geology at what was then Queen's College in Belfast .
McCoy accepted a professorship at Melbourne University in 1854 . He became the first director of the National Museum of Victoria in 1858 .
In 1879 he was awarded the Murchison Medal of the Geological Society of London , and in 1881 the Clarke Medal of the Royal Society of New South Wales .
