Doomfoxx is an Australian hard rock band from Sydney . Together with The Answer , Silvertide , the Tokyo Dragons , Wolfmother , Roadstar and others, the band is one of the representatives of the so-called New Golden Generation of rock music, which has continued this style of music since the beginning of the 21st century, unaffected by the effects of grunge hype . The tradition and success of bands such as Led Zeppelin , AC / DC , Aerosmith , Tesla , Guns N 'Roses and Black Crowes are linked . The band plays rough boogie - hard rock , which is given an unmistakable note by the whiskey- influenced grating voice of the singer Stuart McKie.

history

Years before Doomfoxx was founded, lead singer Stuart McKie, a son of Scottish immigrants, and drummer Jase Burec made several attempts to achieve their personal rock 'n' roll dreams in Australia . McKie, who, as he says, in the Scottish hometown of Kilmarnock mainly got to know the tradition of singing, drinking and fighting, performed in music clubs in Perth and Sydney , where he covered songs by the Faces and Rolling Stones . Burec, on the other hand, had already decided to become a professional drummer at the age of nine when he heard his neighbor play the drums. He spent a few years in Taiwan , where he toured with the Great Moscow Circus . After his return to Sydney, he formed the band Circle with McKie and other musicians . They played some concerts, gained local celebrities and gained a manageable number of fans and groupies . The group fell apart when Stuart McKie relocated to New York hoping to make a breakthrough there, and Burec moved to Adelaide to open a nightclub.

In New York, Stuart McKie slept on park benches in Central Park to raise enough money for his passions, fancy clothes, music clubs and women. One evening in New York's Scrap Bar nightclub he met Australian guitarist Dave Thomas, who spontaneously invited him to share his hotel room. Thomas was introduced to the soul and rock music of the 1960s and early 1970s through his hippie parents . In Manhattan he kept himself afloat financially with jobs in bars and clubs and as an escort service for well-to-do New Yorkers. McKie and Thomas were not only connected by big worries about money and the daily question of where to spend the next night. Together they dreamed of developing their own rock sound that would help them play classic rock 'n' roll on the big stages of the world.

Shaped by the environment in which they grew up and lived, McKie and Thomas were fascinated by the red light district during their time in New York - the world of pimps described in the novels of Iceberg Slim . The last work by this author is called Doom Fox and is about a light girl who exerts such a great fascination on men that it can take away all their property while they watch helplessly. The book describes the rise, fall, and rise again, an experience McKie identified with and wanted to express through his music. The fictional character Doom Fox should therefore become the patroness and namesake of the future band, which, however, would write itself with two Xs.

When McKie and Thomas were finally unable to finance their stay in the USA , they returned to Sydney. Together with drummer Jase Burec and bassist Mark Gerber they founded the band Flame Boa , which quickly attracted the attention of the former AC / DC manager Michael Browning, but was not looked after as enthusiastically by him as the young, success-hungry musicians expected.

At Dave Thomas' request, Archi Read, who had previously played in the glam rock band Hell City Glamours , replaced the previous bassist Gerber. Read was the most famous bass player in Sydney and, in addition to his musical ability, also attracted attention with his flashy make-up , tight jeans and lots of jewelry. He was persuaded by Thomas to leave Hell City Glamors with the ambitious promise to play in the best band in Sydney in the future .

The band was finally completed by a musician who, as a founding member of one of Australia's most successful rock bands, already had profound experience in the rock business. As the guitarist of the band Rose Tattoo , Mick Cocks has the status of a living rock legend in Australia. McKie convinced the rock star with lots of tequila and beautiful women to attend at least one band rehearsal. While playing together, the special sound developed that McKie, Thomas and Burec had been looking for for so long and that moved Mick Cocks to join the band.

Under the name Doomfoxx, the musicians wrote songs that mainly tell of their previous life, the red light milieu, drugs and rock 'n' roll. The band was managed by Richard Cartwright and the first EP was produced by Peter Blyton. In Germany, the record company Armageddon Records signed Doomfoxx. In 2005 the first album was released, which is titled with the band name and shows a tattoo with a woman in a pirate gesture on the cover . The CD contains twelve songs. The ballad My Beautiful Friends and the tempo number Piece Of Me were released as singles.

After the long struggle for success, the time of publication was chosen extremely well, as it coincided with the emergence of so-called retro rock . Critics describe Doomfoxx as a rebirth of AC / DC with Bon Scott and compare the band to Guns N 'Roses and Rose Tattoo .

After the CD was released, major European tours with The Darkness and Rose Tattoo followed in 2005 and 2006 . Doomfoxx made several stops in Germany. In a sense, Hamburg developed into a second hometown next to Sydney for the band . St. Pauli and the Reeperbahn offer musicians an atmosphere that inspires their creative work. In the meantime, the band members often stay in the Hanseatic city, where they have a loyal fan base, give spontaneous concerts and put on records in music clubs. On the Wacken Open Air 2005 was Doomfoxx to a new record as the band is the only participant in all three festival days could occur. As the opening act for Michael Schenker , Doomfoxx played a highly acclaimed concert in April 2006 in the Cologne Music Club Underground , which was recorded by WDR for the Rockpalast series .

During the studio recordings for the second CD, Mick Cocks left the band in early June 2007. In November 2007 Doomfoxx announced that the new record would be released in spring 2008 and that Tony Kvesic, who previously played with the band Ooh Lala from Sydney, has recorded the guitar parts on it and will complete Doomfoxx in the future. From January 2008 the band will tour with the new material and a. perform in the traditional capital of sleaze rock Los Angeles .
