Frederick William Magrady

Frederick William Magrady (born November 24, 1863 in Pottsville , Pennsylvania , †  August 27, 1954 in Danville , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1925 and 1933 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Frederick Magrady attended public schools in Mount Carmel . In 1890 he graduated from the State Normal School in Bloomsburg . For the next 13 years he taught in Mount Carmel as a teacher. He then served for some time in Gauley ( West Virginia ) in the coal business. After studying law at the Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle and his admission to the bar in 1909, he began to work in this profession in Mount Carmel. He also became a director of the First National Bank of Mount Carmel , president of Shamokin-Mount Carmel Transit Co. and Ashland & Shamokin Auto Bus Co. Inc, and director of Mount Carmel Water Co.

Politically, Magrady became a member of the Republican Party . In the 1924 congressional election he was elected to the 17th  constituency of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Herbert Wesley Cummings on March 4, 1925 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1933 . These had been shaped by the events of the Great Depression since 1929 . In 1932 he was not re-elected.

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Frederick Magrady practiced again as a lawyer. He died in Danville on August 27, 1954 and was buried in Mount Carmel.
