Frederick Wilson
Frederick Wilson also Freddie Wilson and Fred Wilson (born August 13, 1912 in London as Frederick Charles Wilson ; † August 1994 in Cambridge , Cambridgeshire ) was a British film editor who oversaw over 40 cinema productions as an editor in his career. Including films like Caesar and Cleopatra , The Mysterious Island , The Amorous Adventures of Moll Flanders , Arabesque and Lawman .
life and career
Frederick Charles Wilson began his career in the field of film editing at the beginning of the 1930s, initially as an assistant in films such as Herbert Wilcox ' Good Night, Vienna or Paul Czinner's drama Never Leave Me Again , before he took on responsibility as editor for cinema productions from 1935 on took over. In the following years he was responsible for films such as René Clair's Daring Game (1938), Paul Czinner's romantic drama Dreaming Eyes (1939), Maurice Elvey's production The Holy Fire (1943) and Gabriel Pascal's historical film Caesar and Cleopatra with Claude Rains , Vivien Leigh and Starring Stewart Granger .
After the Second World War , he was hired as an editor for numerous film genres, comedies, dramas, adventure films and crime films, including for cinema productions such as Die Junge Liebenden , Doktor Ahoi! , The iron petticoat , Dangerous Legacy , The Luxury Captain , Burning India , Escape from the Dark , Lancelot, the daring knight , seduction has to be learned ... or Cold Breath .
In 1967, Wilson received a BAFTA Award nomination in the Best Editing category for Stanley Donen's Arabesque agent thriller starring Gregory Peck and Sophia Loren, and for Michael Anderson's crime drama The Quiller Memorandum - Danger from the Dark with the cast of George Segal , Alec Guinness and Max von Sydow .
In 1949 he worked for the romantic drama Two Young Hearts with Gordon Jackson and Rona Anderson as a director and screenwriter.
Frederick Wilson died in Cambridgeshire in August 1994 at the age of 81. His son Roger Wilson also became a film editor.
