Frederik Valdemar Nikolai Beichmann

Frederik Valdemar Nicolai Beichmann (born  January 3, 1859 in Christiania , †  December 29, 1937 in Trondheim ) was a Norwegian lawyer . He was a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration from 1921 and served as an assistant judge at the Permanent International Court of Justice from 1922 to 1930 .

Life

Frederik Beichmann was in 1859 in the city of Oslo was born, at the time at that time in honor of King Christian IV. Of Denmark and Norwegenden the name Christiania wore. He completed a law degree at the university in his hometown , which he graduated in 1880. After further studies of Roman law in 1882/1883 with Rudolf von Jhering , he joined the Norwegian Ministry of Justice in 1883. In 1898 he was appointed judge at a court of first instance in Trondheim , and from 1904 to 1927 he was president of the local court of appeal .

In addition to his judicial work, Frederik Beichmann took part in various international conferences for the Norwegian government, including the Paris Peace Conference after the end of the First World War . He also worked in various arbitration commissions for the settlement of international conflicts and was a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague from 1921 to 1933 . From 1922 to 1930 he was an assistant judge ( juge-suppléant ) on the Permanent International Court of Justice .

Frederik Beichmann was married to the author and journalist Edle Hartmann from 1885 to 1999 . He died in Trondheim in 1937.

Awards

Frederik Beichmann was knight from 1899 and commander of the Norwegian Order of Saint Olav from 1911 . In 1910 he was accepted into the Institut de Droit international , whose 38th session, held in Oslo in 1922, he chaired.
