Fredrik Stang the Younger
Fredrik Stang (born December 27, 1867 in Christiania, today Oslo ; † November 15, 1941 ibid) was a Norwegian lawyer and conservative politician .
Life
Stang, a son of Prime Minister Emil Stang and grandson of Prime Minister Frederik Stang , became Professor of Law at the University of Christiania in 1897 after studying law in Oslo as well as in Germany and England , where he mainly dealt with private and commercial law. As a member of the conservative Høyre party , he was from 1905 to 1908 on Christiania City Council and from 1906 to 1909 a member of the Norwegian Parliament in Storting . From 1908 to 1911 he was chairman of the party and in 1912 joined the government led by Jens Bratlie as Minister of Justice , which, however, had to resign in early 1913. Stang then took up his professorship again. He served as rector of the University of Oslo from 1921 to 1927 and retired in 1932.
Stang had been with Caroline, born on December 7, 1894. Schweigaard, married. His son was Christian Schweigaard Stang .
In 1918, Stang received an honorary doctorate from the Faculty of Law at the University of Copenhagen , and later also honorary doctorates from the Universities of Paris and Uppsala . From 1900 he was a member of the Norwegian Academy of Sciences . From 1921 he was a member, from 1922 to 1940 chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee .
