action

The Australian Beverly flies to Kenya on vacation with her son Matt. There they go on a safari and come across an animal orphan station. Matt soon befriends Jomo, the station manager's son. As an elephant boy, Jomo is the foster mother of the young elephant cow Elli. When Beverly sends her son the news that Matt's father, who is separated from the family, will not travel to Kenya and that she will also spend a lot of time with the likeable ranger Clive, the relationship between mother and son deteriorates. When the station has to sell Elli to the animal dealer Ethridge for financial reasons, Matt and Jomo decide to free the elephant and reintroduce it to the wild.

The boys threaten Ethridge with his own stun gun and free Elli. Full of anger, he hires the two poachers Vilias and Jubo. After surviving an encounter with a pride of lions, the attempt to integrate Elli into a herd of elephants fails. Thanks to the help of a Maasai tribe, they escape Ethridge and his henchmen. In a nearby town, Matt and Jomo illegally earn money by selling pictures to tourists with Elli. When the police discover this, the three of them flee and Elli causes chaos. All three go to prison, but thanks to Elli they can escape.

When they are back in the savannah, they catch up with Ethridge. During the chase he had a serious accident with his vehicle. Matt and Jomo can save him from the burning vehicle just in time. Meanwhile, the police arrested Vilias and Jubo. Out of gratitude, Ethridge renounces the elephant and, together with the boys and Beverly, Clive and the head of the station Lenono Batiany, watch a herd of elephants take in Elli. At the end of the film, Matt swears he'll be visiting next year.
