history

The Free Enterprise IV was built under construction number 719 at IHC Holland in Schiedam and was launched on March 1, 1969. After the takeover by Townsend Thoresen on May 28, 1969, the ship was put into service on June 1 on the route from Dover to Zeebrugge .

In 1973 the Free Enterprise IV switched to the Dover to Calais route and in May 1976 to the Cairnryan to Larne route . In the 1980s, the ship changed again several times its operational range before it in December 1987, shortly before the release of Townsend Thoresen in Chatham launched was.

In March 1988, the Free Enterprise IV became the property of a Piraeus- based shipping company, who in turn sold it to GT-Link . On June 1, 1988, it started operating under the new name Falster Link on the route from Gedser to Travemünde . From April 1990 the ferry was also in use on the route to Rostock .

In January 1991, the Falster Link became the property of Europa Linien , but continued to operate on the same service route. On June 28, 1994, a fire broke out in the car deck of the ship, in which one person was killed. After repair work, it returned to the ferry service before it was launched on August 11, 1996 in Rostock.

After the Falster Link was used by Scandlines for a few days in April 1997 , it was sold to Egypt in February 1998 and put into service for El Salam Maritime under the name Tag Al Salam on the route from Safaga to Duba in May 1998 . After the ship remained in service there for almost eight years, it was decommissioned in February 2006 and sold for scrapping in Alang , India , where it arrived on March 8, 2008.
