Freerunner is a US action - thriller from 2011 directed by Lawrence Silverstein with Sean Faris as FreeRunner in the lead role.
action
Freerunner Ryan repeatedly runs parkour races with his friends Turk, Finch, Morris, Decks and Mitchell in order to earn a living. Ryan - who has bet on himself to be the winner - is desperate to win the race so he can provide better lives for his hospitalized grandfather and girlfriend Chelsea, who works as a singer and barmaid in a bar. During the race, Ryan is stunned and captured by Mr. Frank with the other freerunners. When the freerunners came to, they had an explosive collar around and a smartphone tied on their wrist. On a monitor they are told that they have to reach three checkpoints within 60 minutes and that the winner will win a million dollars. They are only allowed to leave the track for five minutes, otherwise the collar will ignite. If the last runner reaches a checkpoint later than three seconds of its predecessor, it will also ignite. Before the game begins, one of the freerunners dies for demonstration purposes. Another runner dies in front of the first checkpoint, so the police pay attention and catch all freerunners and transport them away in a vehicle. As they therefore leave the track, they cause the car to sway so that it falls over. With the help of Chelsea, the freerunners can get back on track within five minutes. During the race, millionaires bet on the runners who will win or die. Another runner dies at the second checkpoint and Ryan is the last to reach the point within three seconds. His collar is deactivated except for the 60 minute countdown. Reese, who made the freerunners aware of the competition, is instructed by Mr. Fank to target Ryan with his fighters. Ryan and Turk, who previously found out that Reese was the initiator, want to track him down. After Turks collar explodes, Ryan is able to confront Reese and is told where Mr. Frank is. Together with his friend, the hacker Miles, he can break into the building and inform the outside world about the competition using a smartphone camera and expose the millionaires. Then Ryan tries to win the race against Finch. At the last checkpoint, Finch dies after tearing down the scanner and declaring the competition over. From there, Ryan can jump onto the boat of Mr. Frank, who has Chelsea hostage and is on the run. With one bite, Chelsea can free themselves and save themselves together with Ryan and the prize money into the water, before the boat explodes by means of the loosened collar of Chelsea and the activation of Mr. Frank's smartphone from Ryan. On a sailboat and with a million dollars in their luggage, Chelsea, Ryan and his grandfather now want to start a better life.

criticism
“No question about it, there are some well-filmed sequences and some very nice and even amusing moments. But the bottom line is unfortunately not enough to cover up the all too obvious weaknesses of this action thriller. Not a complete failure, which for die-hard genre fans may even provide for a fun 90 minutes. But all in all a disappointing work that falls far short of its potential. "
