The Free Game European Championship in 1961 was the 11th tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from May 2nd to 5th, 1961 in Estoril . It was the second European Free Game Championship in Portugal.

history

After a defeat in the second round against Fritz Vesely from Vienna, Henk Scholte from Eindhoven ended the tournament without further defeat. The title was in jeopardy, however, as the best player of the tournament had ended the game in the last game against Scholte and Scholte needed a draw in the follow-up to become European champion. He did that with nerves and after Kees de Ruijter , who won the title in 1950, he was the second Dutchman to secure the European title in the free game. Siegfried Spielmann from Düsseldorf landed again in third place . It was his fourth medal at the European Championships in this discipline.

mode

The game was played in a final round "everyone against everyone" up to 500 points. Extended series were counted.

  1. MP = match points
  2. GD = general average
