Antoine "Tony" Schrauwen (born February 27, 1938 in Essen , Belgium , † July 13, 2005 in Lier ) was a Belgian collision player, national coach and billiard official.

Career

Technically speaking, Schrauwen was considered a billiard virtuoso, and from a human point of view also because he didn't insist on his education. His preferred disciplines were the classic free game and cadre . In 1961 he won his first international bronze medal at the Cadre 71/2 European Championships in Thionville , France. Three years later he won gold in Düren and another in Seville , Spain in 1970 . In total, he won 17 international medals as a single player and another eight in a team pentathlon (Belgium).

For 30 years he had a good relationship with the Dutch billiards association KNBB , of which he was also the national trainer and functionary. He coached many Dutch players, such as Dick Jaspers , Dave Christiani , Jean van Erp , Raimond Burgman , Jean Paul de Bruijn , but also the German world champion Dieter Müller in the 1970s .

On July 13, 2005, Schrauwen, suffering from ALS, died in the “Heilig Hartziekenhuis” in Lier, Belgium.

• In 2002 the Koninklijke Nederlandse Biljartbond (KNBB) declared him an honorary member.
• In 2006 the Belgian Post issued a stamp in his honor as part of a commemorative series (face value: € 0.52).
