The free game European championship in 1991 was the 22nd tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from 9 to 12 May 1990 in Berlin . It was the fourth European Free Game Championship in Germany.
history
The European Championship at Alexanderplatz in Berlin brought many results that contradicted the previous sense of the sport of carom. Bochum's Fabian Blondeel finished all six sets in the tournament in one shot. That would certainly have been at least one place for a medal in the past. But here he was 13th !!!. He lost a tie-break and three ties. That has little to do with the actual purpose of this series variety. The first time European champion was Jos Bongers from the Netherlands . The 20-year-old Gelsenkirchen sports soldier Stefan Galla achieved a great success by winning the silver medal in front of the Belgian all-rounder Frédéric Caudron . Markus Schönhoff from Chemnitz delivered his best international result in eighth place. In the course of the tournament he eliminated the Luxenbuger defending champion Fonsy Grethen .
mode
A preliminary round was played in six groups of three and four players. Here seven players were determined who met the nine seeded players. Then there was a double knockout system with a winning and a consolation round, whereby the players for the final and the game for third place were determined. The game was played on two sets of 100 points each. If a sentence ended 100: 100 in a recording, there was a tie-break. If this also ended in a tie, a gang decision was played to determine the winner. It was played without a break, except for one game in a recording. A 2-0 set win resulted in three set points. With a 2: 1 set win, two set points and one for the loser.
