Freitod is a German dark metal band. It is not to be confused with the Swiss NSBM band of the same name .
history
Freitod was founded in February 2005 and has its musical roots in black metal , but the duo also tries to influence the melancholy varieties of rock and metal music. Freedom consists of R. Seyferth ( drums , vocals ) and G. Eisenlauer ( guitar , bass , clear vocals ). Eisenlauer is also active in the Dawn of Despair and Wintergate groups. The duo is supported live by Lars Lüttge (guitar) and B. Stieglmaier (bass).
The first release took place in 2007, when Hopeless… a cassette with three tracks was released via DGW. Demos of Alptraum and Prosatanos have also been released through this underground label. The demo tape that followed ... once deep wounds ... with three tracks also appeared on the label. The debut album Fog of Memories was released in 2010 via Ván Records . This received reviews from Metal Hammer and Vampster, among others .
In 2010 the group played at the Fireblade Force Festival, among others, with Inquisition , Forgotten Tomb , Dies Ater , Truppensturm and Ketzer in Torgau in northern Saxony . The festival originally took place in Betzelberg . In December 2013 the band went on their first European tour with Mortifera (France) and Totalselfhatred (Finland).
Music style and lyrics
The musical style of Freitod is “rooted but not trapped” in Black Metal , according to Ván Records; accordingly, the duo tries to incorporate influences from all genres of melancholy rock and metal into their music. The band itself and Vampster cite Katatonia as an influence . The lyrics are mainly about the personal experiences of the two musicians. Other topics are grief, Weltschmerz and extinct loves. The band name should be understood as "the positive way to end life".
