Frickingen with the hamlets Katzenstein and Iggenhausen is a district of the community Dischingen in the district of Heidenheim . Until 1974 Frickingen was an independent municipality.

Frickingen is located northeast of the center of Dischingen on the county road K 3034.
The place is on the Härtsfeld , a plateau in the east of the Swabian Alb .

history
A Roman road ran just a few meters east of the village , connecting the Roman settlements in Faimingen ( Phoebiana ) and Oberdorf ( Opia ).
Frickingen was mentioned for the first time in the 9th century as Frideruchingen , around 1140 as Fridechingen . The name could come from an Alemannic clan leader named Friederich or something similar. In the 8th and 9th centuries, the Fulda monastery owned here. Two Frickinger Höfe were donated to the Berchtesgaden monastery in 1144 by the Lords of Frohnhofen . Frickingen later passed to the Counts of Oettingen . The Kirchheim monastery also had subjects in Frickingen and the Christgarten monastery had a valid .
