Friderike Elisabeth von Grabow
Friderike Elisabeth von Grabow , b. von der Kettenburg (* 1705 ; † July 7, 1779 in Güstrow ) was a German poet and educator .
Life
Friderike Elisabeth's father, Hans Friedrich von der Kettenburg, was ambassador to the imperial court in Vienna , where she grew up. She married the court judge Friedrich Wilhelm von Grabow in Güstrow. After she was widowed after a short marriage in 1746, Duchess Elisabeth Albertine appointed her tutor to the two princesses Christiane and (Sophie) Charlotte , who later became Queen of England.
The British traveler Thomas Nugent , who met her in Güstrow in 1766, described her in his travelogues. The name of Frau von Grabow as Sappho of Germany , which is often read in Charlotte's biographies, goes back to him . In 1753 the German Society of Greifswald accepted her as a member.
