Friederike Mannel

Sophie Friederike Mannel (born July 13, 1783 in Hilmes ; † March 19, 1833 in Hochstadt ) was the daughter of pastor Adam Mannel (1758–1834) from Allendorf an der Landsburg . From 1807 it was a source for Clemens Brentano's folk song collection Des Knaben Wunderhorn and from 1808 for the collection of children's and house fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm . Through Brentano's mediation, she was one of the first contributors to Grimm's fairy tales. Some of the texts they sent to the Brothers Grimm were written down by their own hand and some were written down by students of their father, who as a pastor in Allendorf at the Landsburg ran a private school.

The fairy tales KHM 46 Fitchers Vogel , KHM 51 Fundevogel , KHM 85 Die Goldkinder , KHM 74a Von Johannes-Wassersprung and Caspar-Wassersprung , perhaps also KHM 77a Von Schreiner und Trechsler go back to Friederike Mannel . This cannot be clearly seen in Grimm's comments on the fairy tales, where the origin of these and other texts is only given as Hessen . Her fairy tales have echoes of baptism motifs and the Christian fight against witches and magic. Like other Grimm sources, Friederike Mannel was a very well-read young woman who also spoke French.

In 1809 she married the pastor Adam Theobald (1779–1844).
