Friedhelm Frenken (born September 2, 1956 in Heinsberg ) is a former German soccer player and soccer coach .

Career

player

Frenkens parent club was the BC Oberbruch . He began his career in the 1978/79 season as a 22-year-old at SC Jülich in 1910 . In 1980 he moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga . He made his debut on matchday four (September 2, 1980) in a 1-0 win over Bayer 04 Leverkusen . He played twelve games in his first season. In his second season with the foals , however , the defender only played once against Borussia Dortmund (0-1) when he came on for Manfred Bergfeld in the 79th minute .

Frenken then moved to the second division Alemannia Aachen . Here he immediately became a regular player and completed 35 games in his first season and finished ninth at the end of the season. Frenken scored his first goal in professional football in his second season in Aachen when he scored the 2-0 in the game against SV Darmstadt 98 just before the break. This season Frenken scored two more goals in 37 games against Rot-Weiss Essen to make it 2-0 in a 4-2 win and against FC Remscheid to make it 2-1 in a 3-1 win. At the end of this season, Aachen finished sixth.

Also in his third season at Tivoli Frenken remained a regular player, scored one goal in 35 games and finished fifth in the final table. After another season, Frenken moved to the 1986/87 season for Bundesliga promoted FC 08 Homburg . Here he played for the first time on the second match day in the 0: 4 bankruptcy against VfB Stuttgart , when he came on for Uwe Freiler in the 65th minute .

After narrowly escaping relegation, Frenken moved to the second division Fortuna Köln after 20 league games and a relegation game . Here, however, the 31-year-old was unable to assert himself as a regular player. He played his first game on the eighth day of play against Blau-Weiß 90 Berlin , when Frenken was substituted on for Ralf Schlösser in the 0-1 defeat in the 62nd minute . He only played 19 times this season and scored an own goal in the 5-1 defeat against FC St. Pauli .

After another disappointing season with only 13 missions, Frenken moved to the league club SC Viktoria Köln for the 1989/90 season . After just one season he left the club and ended his active career.

Trainer

After his active career in the Heinsberg district, Frenken also worked as a trainer . His first stop was Germania Teveren in Geilenkirchen . He later returned to his hometown club BC Oberbruch and took over as coach there in summer 2008. After a year, however, he resigned.
