Friedhelm Weick

Friedhelm Weick (born November 5, 1936 in Karlsruhe - Daxlanden ; † March 30, 2017 in Bruchsal ) was a German animal illustrator and ornithologist . His drawing focus was the birds.

Live and act

Weick began drawing animals, plants and landscapes as a child. In 1951 he did an apprenticeship as a technical draftsman. From 1955 he worked as a development designer and construction manager in various companies. Weick studied commercial graphics from 1979 to 1981 , which he graduated with honors. From 1987 he worked as a graphic designer for the State Museum for Natural History Karlsruhe , where he illustrated the seven-volume work Die Vögel Baden-Württemberg (editor: Jochen Hölzinger ). Weick has been working as a freelance artist and author since 1997.

Weick began to illustrate scientific books and magazines in 1969. Since then he has illustrated over 120 works, including the Handbuch der Vögel Mitteleuropas (publisher: Urs N. Glutz von Blotzheim ), Die Greifvögel der Welt (author: Leslie H. Brown ) and A Guide to the Owls of the World (author: Claus König ). In addition, his drawings and watercolors appeared in magazines such as Wild und Hund , Gefiederte Welt and Der Falke . Weick's work has been shown at several international exhibitions, including in France (1994), Switzerland (1997) and the USA (1998). From November 2005 to January 2006 the State Museum for Natural History in Karlsruhe dedicated the special exhibition "Friedhelm Weick - 50 Years of the Painter of Nature" to him.

Memberships

In 1964 Weick became a member of the German Ornithological Society . In addition, he was a member of the Association of Saxon Ornithologists, the Federal Association of Visual Artists (BBK), and the World Working Group for Birds of Prey and Owls. V. and in the VG Bild-Kunst Bonn. Since 2008 he was a member of the Ornithological Society Baden-Württemberg e. V.

estate

800 pictures and drawings from Friedhelm Weick's estate were transferred to the Naumann Museum in Köthen in 2017 .
