The FRIEDR. DICK GmbH & Co. KG , based in Deizisau near Esslingen am Neckar, is a family - run, medium - sized company and produces cutlery ( knives , scissors and accessories such as sharpening steels ) and other tools for the cookery and butcher's trade. Dick describes himself as a market leader.

history
In 1778 Johann Friedrich Dick founded a file cutting workshop in Esslingen . In 1873 the company was taken over by Paul Friedrich Dick. During this time, the production of sharpening steel began and the first factory was built five years later. At that time, the factory had 20 employees. In 1881 Germany's first file cutting machine was put into operation there.
In 1889 the company moved to a larger factory in Esslingen. At that time the workforce numbered 100 employees. The product range has been expanded with further special tools, knives and splitters. The company oriented itself towards the international market early on, for example by participating in the world exhibitions in the USA in 1893 and 1904.
In 1924 and 1977 subsidiaries were founded in Wiernsheim and Bayreuth . In 1997, the company moved to Deizisau, the company's current headquarters. The former, listed factory building in Esslingen was rebuilt and now houses the leisure and adventure center Das Dick .
Wilhelm Leuze , Paul Friedrich Dick's great-nephew, has been managing director since 1989 and runs the company. The Friedr. Dick GmbH & Co. KG has been family-owned since it was founded. During this time sales companies were founded in several countries and companies were acquired. The company Pott from Solingen, which was taken over in 2001, was sold again in 2006.

Dick produces high-quality chef's knives in various configurations for the professional area of gastronomy and for private customers. The following series are currently produced and sold:

Files, rasps
Various files and rasps are an integral part of the company. Dick also offers custom designs. The program includes precision files (needle files / escapement files, corrugated files, diamond files) and corrugated rasps. So-called historic rasps have an intentionally irregular stroke. So-called Dickofil tools are files and deburrers for soft materials.
Awards
The majority of the company's chef's knives have been awarded various prizes and certificates for quality and design. Examples are the red dot design award , the Design Plus Award and the “Kitchen Innovation Award”.
In 2013, the “4 Knives Knife Block” without equipment was awarded first place in the “Kitchen Technology Award” competition.
In the reader poll of the journal of "Messer Magazine" was the Santoku knife from the Red Spirit Award series with third place in the election to the diameter of the year, 2013.
social commitment
The society supports various national chefs teams, for example in the USA, Ireland, Canada and Croatia, as well as the World Association of Chef Societies - WACS. The non-profit association Aktion Kindertäume - Association of the German Meat Industry e. V. (Patron Margit Tönnies) helps needy children, young people and their families with donations in kind. Financial resources are also collected for the association during the German dismantling championship .
