organization

In the FEK, more than 26,000 patients are treated in full and part-time inpatients every year, plus almost 60,000 patients who are treated on an outpatient basis. With 2,115 employees, it supplies a catchment area of around 150,000 inhabitants and is one of the largest employers in Neumünster. With around 150 training positions, it is also the city's largest training company.

history

On October 8, 1889, the Neumünster municipal hospital on Meßtorffweg was opened with 40 beds. The costs amounted to 83,831 marks. Until 1900, all doctors in the city were able to transfer their patients to the city hospital and treat them there themselves. From November 1900 two hospital doctors were employed.

In 1910 a wing was added, increasing the number of beds to 96. In 1912, a barracks and a reclining hall were built to accommodate the sick so that recovering patients could stay in the fresh air. The first ambulance to transport the sick and injured was put into service. In 1924 it was necessary to purchase a second ambulance. A house was built on Klosterstrasse for nurses and doctors.

On February 10, 1925, the construction of the Friedrich Ebert Hospital began. The magistrate was unanimously authorized to “commission the implementation of the hospital project”. On February 1, 1930 the house with 236 beds was inaugurated. It got its name after Friedrich Ebert , the first Reich President of Germany. The cost of construction at that time amounted to 3 million Reichsmarks.

On December 18, 1962, the council approved the new building. On August 3, 1967, the city received approval from the state government to build the new hospital with a capacity of 545 beds. The foundation stone for the new hospital building was laid on September 14, 1968. The council meeting decided in February 1969 to build an additional psychiatric and neurological clinic on the sixth floor.

In October 1973, the Ministry of Social Affairs of Schleswig-Holstein determined that 693 treatment beds and 23 functional beds could be set up in the future Friedrich-Ebert Hospital. The old building was to continue to be used with 166 beds. The hospital should fulfill the function of a specialized hospital according to the hospital planning of the country. In 1974 the laundry and the pharmacy were first put into operation in the new building. In March 1975 the city submitted a supplementary cost estimate to the state government in the amount of 84.9 million DM, plus 7.5 million DM for planning and execution defects. The state government recognized DM 71.01 million as eligible costs for the new hospital building. The central laboratory and radiology moved into the new building in February 1977, and the clinics from July 1977 to October 8, 1977. On October 1, 1977, the Friedrich-Ebert-Hospital was included as an academic teaching hospital in the training of young doctors.

On 1 January 1994 the conversion of the carried out public utility into a GmbH , 1995, the renovation of existing building was completed in the year 1930th The inauguration of the new entrance hall took place in 1998, at the same time a new operative intensive care unit with 14 beds was built. Another renovation took place in 2000, and the children's clinic was also renovated. Between 2002 and 2004 a decision was made against an expensive renovation of the main building and the planning of a replacement building. The renovation and extension of the day clinic for child and adolescent psychiatry was completed at the end of 2005.
