Friedrich Christian Schlenkert (born February 8, 1757 in Dresden , † June 16, 1826 in Tharandt ) was a German writer .

Life

Schlenkert was the son of a hired coach. He first attended the Kreuzschule in Dresden, then received private tuition in the languages before he switched to the Pforta State School in 1771 . He started out studying theology at the University of Leipzig , but increasingly devoted himself to studying history and the study of fine sciences . Eventually he turned away from studying theology and devoted himself entirely to the fine sciences. During this time his first publications were made. However, his parents did not agree with his study plans and called him back to Dresden in 1782.

Schlenkert had to look for a position in Dresden that would give him a living. At first he became an accessist in the Generalaccis billing expedition and a year later he was the expediting secretary of the newly established Saxon Secret Finance College . During this time he was still active as a writer, which probably had an impact on his work and, in addition to the liberal tone in his works, led to his dismissal from civil service in 1791 .

Schlenkert was initially able to finance himself without a position with the earnings from his writing activity. After a while he moved to Tharandt, where he made a contribution to the beautification of the place. When the real taxes were reformed in the Kingdom of Saxony , he got a job as a local expedition in Dippoldiswalde . However, he only held this position for a short time until it became obsolete due to the coalition wars. In 1815 he became professor of the German language at the newly founded Tharandt Forestry Academy . He devoted himself to this task until his death in 1826.
