Friedrich Feld (writer)
Friedrich Feld ( pseudonym ; actually Friedrich "Fritz" Rosenfeld; * December 5, 1902 in Vienna ; † December 27, 1987 in Bexhill , East Sussex ) was an Austrian (from 1948 also British writer , translator , film critic , playwright and children's book author) .
Life
Friedrich "Fritz" Rosenfeld, alias Friedrich and Fritz Feld and a few other pseudonyms, studied art and literary history after passing the high school diploma . He also wrote theater and film reviews for Viennese newspapers. He was friends with the authors Max Winter and Schiller Marmorek . From 1923 to 1934 he was part of the culture section of the social democratic workers' newspaper in Vienna under the name Fritz Rosenfeld . From January until it was banned in February 1934, he headed the feature section of this newspaper. After the February fighting in 1934 , he emigrated to Czechoslovakia .
In Prague Rosenfeld initially worked as a lecturer and dramaturge for the film production company Paramount , later as a theater critic . In 1939 he emigrated again, this time to Great Britain . In 1940 he was interned on the Isle of Man as an " enemy alien " for six months . He then worked in a factory, and later for the monitoring service for shipments in the Czech language of the BBC , and from 1946 to 1962 he worked as a translator for the news agency Reuters operates. Rosenfeld had been a British citizen since 1948 . Although he refused to return to Austria after 1945 , he provided film reviews for the Arbeiter-Zeitung until 1956 . He spent his old age in Bexhill-on-Sea .
Rosenfeld alias Feld was the author of books for children and young people , plays and radio plays ; he also translated from English and Czech into German . His children's books were particularly successful; from 1414 Going on Vacation, a story about a railway locomotive, 200,000 copies were sold; There were over 250,000 copies of The Musical Umbrella . Many of his works were also distributed as radio plays and on records . In 1924 his first novel for adults, Johanna, appeared in sequels in the newspaper Salzburger Wacht, the book form of the milieu study on a woman's fate from the 1920s will be published by the literary scholar Primus-Heinz Kucher in the spring of 2020 in the Viennese publisher Edition Atelier.
