Friedrich Giesebrecht (theologian, 1852)

Friedrich Giesebrecht (born July 30, 1852 in Kontopp ; † August 21, 1910 in Stettin ) was a German theologian.

After the early death of his father, Giesebrecht and his mother came to Halle (Saale) to study at the pedagogy of the “ Francke Foundations ”. He studied theology and Semitic philology in Halle and Erlangen from 1869 to 1873 . He was strongly influenced by Johann Christian Konrad von Hofmann and Martin Kähler . He was a member of the Halle and Erlanger Wingolf .

From 1876 he was an adjunct at the cathedral candidate pen in Berlin. In 1879 he became a private lecturer and in 1883 an associate professor for the Old Testament, and in 1895 he became a full honorary professor in Greifswald . Here he entered into close personal and academic relationships with Julius Wellhausen .

From 1898 to 1908 Giesebrecht was a full professor at the Albertus University in Königsberg .
