Friedrich Helreich

Friedrich Christian Helreich (born September 17, 1842 in Schweinfurt , † February 12, 1927 in Würzburg ) was a German physician , medical historian and ophthalmologist .

Life

Friedrich Christian Helreich was the son of Friedrich Hel Reich, who at the time of his birth was an assessor at the district and city court in Schweinfurt. After his father was transferred with effect from December 4, 1843 as a councilor to the district and city court in Aschaffenburg , Helreich later attended school and high school in Aschaffenburg, studied in Munich, Würzburg, Göttingen, Vienna and Berlin and in 1866 got a thesis on diabetes mellitus PhD . In 1868 he settled in Würzburg as an ophthalmologist and received his habilitation in 1869 with his work on the nerves of the conjunctiva and sclera .

In the German War of 1866 and the Franco-German War of 1870/71 , Helreich participated as a troop doctor.

In 1872 Friedrich Helreich founded a private eye clinic in Würzburg.

In 1886 he became honorary professor at the University of Würzburg and in 1896 associate professor with the additional teaching tasks of medical history, medical geography and statistics.

Friedrich was Helfreich 1883-1896 assistant at by Albrecht Nagel reasoned and Julius Michel continued annual report on the performance and progress in the field of ophthalmology .

He was a member of the Physico-Medical Society in Würzburg . On July 9, 1906, Friedrich Helreich was accepted as a member ( matriculation no. 3224 ) of the Leopoldina Scholars' Academy . In 1908 he was appointed royal Bavarian councilor.

In 1919 Helreich retired.

His successor at the University of Würzburg was taken over by the medical historian Georg Sticker in 1922 .
