Albrecht Nagel

Albrecht Eduard Nagel (born June 14, 1833 in Danzig ; † July 22, 1895 in Tübingen ) was a German ophthalmologist and university professor .

Life

Nagel, the son of a school principal, studied at the universities of Königsberg and Berlin . There he was in particular a student of Hermann von Helmholtz and Albrecht von Graefe . In Graefe he was in 1855 with the dissertation Obersavationes quaedam ophthalmoscopiae to Dr. med. PhD . First he worked as a general practitioner in Danzig, in 1859 went to Utrecht , England and Scotland for further studies and in 1862 he founded a rural practice in East Prussia .

Nagel completed his habilitation in 1864 and was given a teaching position at the University of Tübingen . He also founded a private clinic in Tübingen. In 1867 he received a call as associate professor of ophthalmology at the medical faculty of the University of Tübingen. In 1874 he was promoted to full professor of this subject. In addition, when it was founded in 1875, he became the first director of the University Eye Clinic in Tübingen .

From 1872, Nagel published the annual reports on the achievements and progress in the field of ophthalmology and, from 1881, the reports from the ophthalmological clinic in Tübingen .

On January 23, 1888, Albrecht Nagel was registered under matriculation no. 2717 accepted as a member of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina .

The sensory physiologist Wilibald A. Nagel was his son.
