Friedrich Johann Emich von Üxküll-Gyllenband (born April 14, 1685 ; † November 19, 1768 ) was the first Privy Councilor, President of the Court and Government Council and President of the Church Council of the Margraviate of Baden-Durlach .

origin

The father, Carl Gustav (1649–1714) was an officer in the Dutch service, the mother was Johanna Christine Hartmann von Festenburg and settled in the Palatinate. The Uexküll family came from Holstein via the Mark Brandenburg to the Baltic States, where they took the name Üxküll. His grandfather Konrad, a royal Swedish colonel, was raised to the status of a Swedish baron in 1648 and was nicknamed the Gyllenband. In the literature, the name can be found in different spellings: Üxküll, Uexküll, Uxkill, Ixküll, in Sweden also Yxkull.

career

Üxküll entered service in Baden-Durlach in 1708. In 1711 he accompanied the margrave's sons, Karl Magnus and Friedrich , as court master , on their educational trips.

After the death of Margrave Karl Wilhelm from 1738 to 1766 President of the Councilor and thus First Minister of the Margraviate. Since Margrave Karl Wilhelm decreed in his will that the custodial government under the chairmanship of Karl August von Baden-Durlach required the approval of the Hofrat, his position was very strong. Even after Karl Wilhelm's grandson Karl Friedrich came to power in 1746, Üxküll remained the actual head of the Baden-Durlach government, at least until his effective takeover in 1752.

He acquired the Mönchzell manor and the associated place experienced a great economic boom under the Uexküll family.

Marriage and offspring

Üxküll married Christine Philippine Marie Freiin Göler von Ravensburg (1691–1772) on May 1, 1714 and had four children with her:
