Friedrich Johann von Korff called Schmising (* 1625 ; † June 30, 1696 ) was a privy councilor and president of the court chamber .

Life

Origin and family

Born as the son of the married couple Heinrich Korff called Schmising zu Tatenhausen (1583–1665, Canon in Minden) and Sibylla  von Wendt  (1589–1666), Friedrich Johann came from the ancient Westphalian aristocratic family  Korff called Schmising . His brother Otto Heinrich was provost in Münster, Matthias privy councilor, cathedral dean and cantor in Hildesheim,  Kaspar Heinrich Amtsdroste in Iburg and deputy of the Ravensberg knighthood and Johann Adolf provost in St. Mauritz.

Career and work

Friedrich Johann entered the Order of St. John and became a grand ballier in the Mark Brandenburg and Westphalia. The order had  lost large parts of its possessions as a result of the  Westphalian peace treaty in 1648, so that it had to carry out its office in an extremely difficult economic situation. He was Commander of the Order of St. John in Steinfurt and Münster. In 1679 he became a privy councilor . From 1680 to 1683 he was President of the Court Chamber . His successor in office was the future Prince-Bishop Friedrich Christian von Plettenberg .
