Otto Heinrich Korff called Schmising (* October 21, 1620 - † October 4, 1664 ) was provost of the cathedral in the prince-bishopric of Münster .

Life

Origin and family

Born as the son of the married couple Heinrich Korff called Schmising zu Tatenhausen (1583–1665, Canon in Minden) and Sibylla von Wendt (1589–1666), Otto Heinrich came from the ancient Westphalian noble family Korff called Schmising . His twin brother Matthias (1620–1684) was a privy councilor, cathedral dean and cantor in Hildesheim, Kaspar Heinrich (1616–1690) was dismissed from office in Iburg and deputy of the Ravensberg knighthood, Johann Adolf (1619–1678) provost in St. Mauritz and Friedrich Johann privy councilor and Johanniter-Komtur.

Career and work

Otto Heinrich, active as canon in Hildesheim, received the cathedral canon in Münster from Pope Urban VIII on July 7, 1629 and initially studied at the Sorbonne in Paris . After a letter from his father to the cathedral chapter , he received permission to change to another university, because the French do not tolerate any longer in France . In 1635 he received a Dompräbende in Osnabrück . On June 9, 1641, he received minor ordinations and two days later he was ordained a subdeacon. His ordination as a deacon fell on March 11, 1645. A year later he was cathedral cantor in Osnabrück. The election as provost of the cathedral was on May 5, 1650. A short time later, on July 20, he received the vacant cathedral provost from Pope Innocent X and on September 2, 1650 swore his oath of allegiance to him. In the election of the Bishop of Münster in 1650, he appeared as a strong supporter of Christoph Bernhard von Galen and was one of his loyal followers in the period that followed.
