Matthias von Korff called Schmising (* October 21, 1620 , † March 27, 1684 ) was a privy councilor , advisor and diplomat to the Prince-Bishop of Münster .

Life

Origin and family

Matthias von Korff was born as the son of Heinrich von Korff called Schmising zu Tatenhausen (1583–1665, Canon in Minden) and his wife Sybilla von Wendt zu Holtfeld (1589–1666). His twin brother Otto Heinrich was provost in Münster, Johann Adolf provost in St. Mauritz and Kaspar Heinrich Office Droste in Iburg.

Career and work

With the receipt of the tonsure on April 29, 1632 Matthias was prepared for a clerical profession and in the same year canon in Münster, after which he had completed his studies in Paris. On June 9, 1641, he and his brother Otto Heinrich received the minor ordinations and two days later the subdiaconate ordination . In 1644 he was canon in Hildesheim and was ordained diaconate on March 11, 1645 - again together with his brother. This was followed by a study trip to Rome. On August 9, 1650 he was ordained a cathedral cantor in Hildesheim and a priest on February 24, 1652. Matthias was archdeacon in Vreden and became cathedral sexton in Münster on April 19, 1654. From 1654 to 1663 he was a privy councilor and war councilor and worked as an advisor and diplomat to Prince-Bishop Christoph Bernhard von Galen .
