Friedrich Lotter

Friedrich Lotter (born December 22, 1924 in Deutsch Krone , Grenzmark Province of Posen-West Prussia , † April 9, 2014 in Kassel ) was a German historian . He researched the history of the Jews in the Middle Ages and Christian-Jewish relations up to the late Middle Ages.

Life

Lotter was born in the West Prussian German Krone, his parents moved to Frankfurt (Oder) shortly after his birth . Here he attended the Friedrichsgymnasium from 1935 until he was drafted into the Wehrmacht in 1942 . In 1945 he was taken prisoner by the Soviets, from which he returned in 1947. Lotter studied history and classical philology in Marburg from 1948 to 1953, after which he taught at the Wilhelmsgymnasium Kassel . In 1956 the doctorate followed, in 1972 the habilitation, both in Marburg. In 1974 he became academic councilor (later: academic director) and associate professor for medieval history in Göttingen . In 1990 Lotter retired.
