Friedrich Maximilian Mauritii

Friedrich Maximilian Mauritii , also Friedrich Maximilian Mauritius (born August 17, 1724 in Lörrach , † March 5, 1799 in Bützow ) was a German theologian and university professor.

Life

Friedrich Maximilian Mauritii came from Lörrach near Basel in southern Baden . He studied theology in Halle under Siegmund Jakob Baumgarten . His doctorate in theology took place in 1753 under Johann Georg Knapp . After a short time as private tutor, he was first vice-rector and then rector from 1754 at the grammar school in Minden in Westphalia and also worked there as a pastor. In 1768 he was appointed professor of theology (2nd professorship) and consistorial councilor at Friedrichs University in Bützow by Duke Friedrich of Mecklenburg . In addition, he should act as director of the university affiliated education . He gave up this office in 1772. Mauritii was rector of the university five times during his work in Bützow. After the reunification of the universities in Bützow and Rostock , he retired. In addition to his professorship, Mauritii devoted himself intensively to chronology . There were several writings by him on this that deal with the calculation of the time of the Egyptians and the information in the Bible. The writings were published, for example, in the scholarly contributions to the Mecklenburg-Schwerin news .
