Friedrich Meyer (politician, 1840)

Carl Friedrich Meyer (born October 24, 1840 in Steinhagen , † January 8, 1911 in Bielefeld ) was a German master painter and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Friedrich Meyer attended the Protestant elementary school in Steinhagen, the commercial training school in Bielefeld and learned the painting trade from 1855 to 1859 in Bielefeld, where he had been established since 1869. He served from 1860 to 1863 with the 2nd Westphalian Infantry Regiment No. 15 and took part in the wars of 1864 , 1866 and 1870/71 . He was also chairman of the Bielefeld Chamber of Crafts since 1900 and chairman of the supervisory board of the Bielefeld Advance Society since 1892. He was also a long-time headmaster of the painters' guild and the guild committee and member of the city council from 1883 to 1889. He was Bearer of the war memorial for 1864 and the Alsen cross (1864) , the commemorative cross for 1866 , the war memorial from 1870/71 , the Landwehr service award and the Centenar medal .

From 1903 to 1907 he was a member of the German Conservative Party for the constituency of Minden 2 Herford , Halle (Westphalia) in the Reichstag . In 1907 he ran again for the Reichstag, but was narrowly defeated by his national liberal rival with a difference of only 200 votes. From 1904 until his death he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives .
