Friedrich Polack

Friedrich Polack (born January 24, 1835 in Flarchheim ; died July 19, 1915 in Treffurt ) was a German educator .

Life

Friedrich Polack was born the son of a master tailor in Flarchheim, Thuringia. After preparatory classes with the village pastor, he went to the preparandy and teacher training college in Erfurt from 1849 to 1855 . His first teaching activities led him to the village schools in Schierschwende from 1855 to 1860 and from 1860 to 1868 to Kammerforst . From 1869 to 1871 he was a teacher at the middle school in Erfurt and took the rector's examination here.

After passing the exam, he was transferred to Nordhausen am Harz , where he first headed the elementary school and shortly afterwards the middle school as principal. In 1876 he went to Worbis as a district school councilor and worked here until 1903. A year later he retired and from then on devoted himself to writing in Treffurt ad Werra.

He published numerous textbooks and handbooks and founded the monthly "Pädagogische Brosamen" (1898), which he published until 1906. He is particularly well known for his 5-volume work “Brosamen. Memories from the life of a schoolboy ”, Wittenberg 1883–1909, which appeared in several editions. In addition to educational writings, he wrote a description of the Worbis district on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Eichsfeld's membership in Prussia .
