Friedrich Schürer-Waldheim

Friedrich Schürer-Waldheim (also Fritz Schürer von Waldheim ; born June 9, 1896 in Wildalpen , † April 19, 1991 in Vienna ) was an Austrian surgeon .

Life

After studying medicine at the University of Vienna , Schürer-Waldheim received his doctorate in 1922 and worked from 1923 to 1926 as a surgeon at the 1st Surgical University Clinic under Anton Eiselsberg , then as an employee of Wolfgang Denk in Vienna and Graz. He completed his habilitation for surgery in Vienna in 1935 and was provisional director of the 1st surgical clinic in 1938/39. In 1939 he was appointed professor. From 1939 to 1943 Schürer-Waldheim took part in the Second World War as a surgeon and was then primary physician at the Vienna Wilhelminenspital . He developed an anesthesia monitor ( cardiotron ) and performed operations on patients with haemophilia .
