Live and act

Schierholz first visited the Städelsche Institut in Frankfurt, where he was assigned numerous smaller works as a student of Johann Nepomuk Zwerger (1796–1868). At the age of 18 he presented his first work Landung Lohengrins in 1858 and a little later modeled a bust of Beethoven made in marble and spread through numerous casts .

In 1859 he moved to Max von Widnmann's studio in Munich. There he created the relief Erlkönig with his daughters and two large sandstone statues as commissioned work for the National Museum. A planned stay in Rome failed and he returned to Frankfurt. Here he created decorative allegorical images such as play, dance, music and song in children's scenes (1869), created several statues for the cathedral and the new theater in Frankfurt and for a concert hall in Bad Nauheim . In 1887, Schierholz re-cast the figure of the Justitia, originally made of sandstone and now weathered, at the Fountain of Justice on Frankfurt's Römerberg and also copied the virtue reliefs and the siren statues. Friedrich Schierholz's grave is in the Frankfurt main cemetery .
