Friedrich Schimmel

Friedrich Schimmel (born April 18, 1804 in Gevelsberg (Hagen district), † May 1, 1885 in Bad Oeynhausen ) was a royal Prussian major general and most recently the commandant of the Glatz Fortress .

origin

His parents were the customs calculator Johann Friedrich Sigismund Schimmel (1773–1832) and his wife Klara Wilhelmine Heilenbeck (1777–1837).

Life

He joined the 11th Hussar Regiment on October 4, 1822 as a simple hussar . There he was appointed portepeef ensign on July 21, 1824 and second lieutenant on October 10, 1825. From 1831 to 1834 he was posted to the General War School . He was then from 1835 to 1837 a teacher at the division school of the 13th Division and from 1837 to 1840 assigned to the topographical office . During that time he was promoted to Premier-Lieutenant on January 15, 1839, and in 1839 he was posted to the Guards Artillery Brigade for three months. After his return he was reinstated as a teacher at the division school of the 13th Division from 1840 to 1847. During this time he was appointed Adjutant of the 13th Division on October 3, 1844, and Rittmeister on March 22, 1845. On January 29, 1848, he was transferred as an adjutant to the General Command of the VII Army Corps, before he was transferred to the 5th Uhlan Regiment as a squadron chief on March 5, 1850 . There he was promoted to major on June 18, 1853 and appointed staff officer on April 18, 1854.

On January 2, 1855, he was transferred to the 7th Uhlan Regiment and from there on June 15, 1857 as a commander in the Cosel Fortress , and on July 21, 1857 he was assigned à la suite of the 7th Uhlan Regiment. Promoted to lieutenant colonel on May 22, 1858, and transferred to Glatz fortress as commandant on May 19, 1859 . He was promoted to colonel on July 1, 1860, and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 3rd class with ribbon , on October 18, 1861 . On June 25, 1864, he was given the character of major general, before being put up for retirement on April 4, 1865 . He also received the Order of the Red Eagle 2nd Class with Oak Leaves .

He died on May 1, 1885 in Bad Oeynhausen.

In 1847, his assessment read: With a lot of thorough knowledge, practical ability, routine in business, honorable disposition, solid character and excellent morality, he is suitable for the general staff and for service in the line and therefore earns promotion because of his versatile qualities to be recommended except for the tour of the Most High Grace.

family

He married on December 22, 1838 in Berlin Alwine Luise Florentine Wilhelmine von Taubenheim (* August 19, 1811, † February 23, 1868), a daughter of the city judge Karl Friedrich Leberecht von Taubenheim (1771-1838). A son was in Infantry Regiment No. 22.

The daughter Hedwig Luise (1844–1932) married Peter Eduard Heinrich Carl Wilhelm Hueck (1840–1920) in 1870 and became the mother of the later mine director Adolf Hueck .
