Friedrich Wilhelm Lindner

Friedrich Wilhelm Lindner (born December 12, 1779 in Weida ; † November 3, 1864 in Leipzig ) was professor of theology at the University of Leipzig .

Life

Friedrich Wilhelm Lindner was born in Weida in the Thuringian Vogtland in 1779 . His father Johann Traugott Lindner was a weaver in Weida.

In 1806 he graduated from the university with a master’s degree and in 1808 obtained his habilitation . Since this year he has been listed as a lecturer in the course catalogs. In 1815 he became associate professor of philosophy and in 1825 associate professor of pedagogy and catechetics at the theological faculty of the University of Leipzig.

The house he built in 1855 in what was then Ullrichgasse (now Seeburgstrasse 47 student residence)

In 1826 he obtained a doctorate in theology in Königsberg.

He was a member of the Apollo Masonic Lodge in Leipzig , but made their rituals public in his book Mac-Benac under a pseudonym . After his authorship was discovered, his fraternity was revealed on March 13, 1818.

He was a big fan of Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi .

In September 1849, when the Lutheran Central Association was founded in Prussia, Lindner and his son signed the "Call of the Lutheran Associations to the Evangelical Lutheran Congregations in Prussia".

In 1855 he built a residential building in Ullrichgasse, today's Seeburgstrasse, in a Gothic style. After renovation, it is now used as a student residence.

Theology professor Wilhelm Bruno Lindner was one of his sons.

Lindner died in Leipzig in 1864.
