Friedrich Wilhelm von Suter (born August 5, 1733 ; † May 5, 1815 in Kalgen , Fischhausen district ) was a Prussian lieutenant general , chief of Hussar Regiment No. 5 and heir to Kalgen.

Life

origin

His parents were Bogislaw Ernst Wilhelm von Suter (January 1698 - August 28, 1740) and his wife Maria von Wahlen . His father was a royal Prussian captain and squadron chief in Dragoon Regiment No. 7 . He had five brothers in the army. One of them fell near Zorndorf and another near Kunersdorf . A third died in 1766 as a major in Garrison Regiment No. 5 .

Military career

He became a Junker in Dragoon Regiment No. 7 on June 8, 1751 , and in 1756 he became a non-commissioned officer. On March 30, 1756 he received his Prussian nobility renewal. At the beginning of the Seven Years' War on November 22, 1756, he became a cornet in Hussar Regiment No. 5 . He took part in the battles of Groß-Jägersdorf , Kunersdorf , Zorndorf and Torgau . He was wounded in Zorndorf and in the battle near Görlitz. When the Schweidnitz fortress surrendered in 1760, Suter was also taken prisoner, but was replaced in 1761. On December 13, 1760 he was even promoted to second lieutenant. On January 21, 1762 he was Premier-Lieutenant and on March 28, 1762 staff officer .

After the war, on June 28, 1768, he became captain and squadron chief . On January 20, 1776 he became a major and as such took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . On May 20, 1789 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on May 20, 1789 to colonel with a patent from May 24, 1789. On June 1, 1789 he was given command of the II battalion. During the review in Heiligenbeil on June 8, 1789, he received the Pour le Mérite . On May 31, 1792 he was appointed commander of the No. 5 Hussar Regiment. He was appointed Major General on January 2, 1794, and on January 1, 1795 he was promoted to Chief of the No. 5 Hussar Regiment. On May 20, 1800 he was also promoted to lieutenant general. On December 20, 1804 he received his resignation and 1200 thalers pension. He died on May 6, 1815 in Kalgen and was buried in Haffstrom . Officers of his regiment erected a memorial to the general in the church of Haffstrom in 1842.

family

He married on September 13, 1768 in Königsberg in Prussia Johanne Charlotte von Proeck (born June 19, 1746 - † June 7, 1824). The couple had three children, two of whom died early and later divorced. The daughter Henriette Philippine Charlotte (born November 18, 1775, † February 21, 1851) later married Major General Hans Karl Friedrich Franz von Below .
