Hans Karl Friedrich Franz von Below

Hans Karl Friedrich Franz von Below (born July 16, 1764 in Königsberg ; † August 30, 1840 at Gut Kalgen ) was a Prussian major general and inspector of garrison and replacement troops in East and West Prussia during the wars of liberation . He was also the heir of Kalgen and Saleske .

Life

His parents were Franz Jakob von Below (* November 16, 1718; † 1789) and his wife Ilse Gottliebe Florentine, born von der Marwitz (* January 6, 1728; † July 1799) from the Diedersdorf house, widow of Alexander (III. ) by Hake (June 17, 1715 - June 22, 1757). His father was the heir to the Saleske, mint director and a Prussian lieutenant a. D. in the "Rössler" battalion.

Military career

Below entered the Prussian Army's "von Steinwehr" infantry regiment as a private corporal in 1780 and became an ensign on July 28, 1782 . On December 18, 1786 he came as a second lieutenant with a patent from September 1, 1785 in the infantry regiment "von Anhalt" . On March 11, 1788 Below was Adjutant of the East Prussian Infantry Inspectorate under Lieutenant General von Henckel . On May 18, 1790 he was staff captain and on December 21, 1792 captain and company commander in the infantry regiment "von Holstein-Beck" . During the Kościuszko uprising , Below fought at Raigrod in 1794/95. On June 4, 1795 he came as a major in the Fusilier Regiment No. 6 of the East Prussian Fusilier Brigade. Below returned on September 26, 1798 as a commander in the 1st Battalion of the infantry regiment "von Schöning" back. From June 1, 1799 he was in command of a grenadier regiment that was composed of the companies of the “von Schöning” and “von Brünneck” regiments. On July 4, 1806 Below was promoted to lieutenant colonel before he rose to regimental commander on September 17, 1806. In the Fourth Coalition War , Below was able to distinguish himself in the Battle of Preußisch Eylau , for which he received the order Pour le Mérite on February 13, 1807 .

After the war he was given the reorganization of his regiment on December 20, 1807, and Below was promoted to colonel on March 13, 1808 . On March 5, 1808, he received the Order of Saint Anne for Eylau . From September 12, 1808, his regiment was called the 2nd East Prussian Infantry Regiment "Prince Heinrich" . Below became a brigadier of the East Prussian Infantry on March 16, 1810, for which he received a monthly allowance of 25 thalers. On March 28, 1811, he gave up command of his regiment and on March 18, 1812, he became the commander of the mobile 1st Combined Infantry Brigade, with which he then took part in the campaign of 1812 . For this he received the Order of the Red Eagle III on December 14, 1812 . Class. Of him was still on July 1, 1813 Farewell to the character as a major general and a pension of 900 taler granted, but already on July 21, 1813, he was inspector of the garrison and spare troops in East and West Prussia. For this he received the patent as major general on August 21, 1813. After the war he was dismissed again on October 3, 1815, and received a pension of 1000 thalers.

But the major general was remembered. So he received on April 19, 1822 from King Friedrich Wilhelm III. 300 thalers for free. He received 1,300 thalers in state bonds from backward pension payments for his father-in-law, General von Suter . Below died on August 30, 1840 on his Kalgen estate near Königsberg.

Below married on March 1, 1797 in Stallupönen Henriette Philippine Charlotte von Suter (* November 18, 1775, † February 21, 1851), a daughter of General Friedrich Wilhelm von Suter . The couple had several children:
