Friedrich Zängerle

Friedrich "Fritz" (Johann) Zängerle (born March 31, 1911 in Langen (Hesse) ; † December 29, 1996 ) was a German trade unionist , chairman of the works council of Adam Opel AG and communist resistance fighter as the leader of a resistance group undiscovered by the Nazis Opel.

Life

Zängerle was born the son of a bricklayer. After completing his apprenticeship and working for a few years in Frankfurt, he moved to Adam Opel AG in Rüsselsheim. From 1936 to 1974 he worked in the tool shop and later as a member of the works council. He was a metal unionist for over 40 years, first chairman of the works council of Adam Opel AG and later a 29-year-old Opel works council.

Zängerle was a member of the KPD . In 1945 he was sent to the Advisory State Committee for his party . In 1949 he was a member of the first Federal Assembly in Bonn. In 1953 he was nominated for the KPD Bundestag candidate.

For years he was a member of the Rüsselsheim city council, city councilor and member of the city parliament in the post-war period. Furthermore, he was a participant in the first founding meeting of the DGB German trade union federation in Munich , in later functions also city, district and state delegate of the trade union IG Metall Hessen , of which Zängerle had been a member for over 40 years.

He was married to Emilie Zängerle (née Benz), they had two daughters and for decades lived directly at the Opel factory in Rüsselsheim, in Jakob-Sittmann-Str. 13, here the stumbling block was laid in front of the house .

Honors

  • In 1992, the state of Hessen awarded Fritz Zängerle the honorary letter of the state of Hessen for his exemplary human work and voluntary commitment .
  • 2005, ten years after his death, a factory road in the main Opel plant in Rüsselsheim was named after Fritz Zängerle, the very first Opel employee.
  • In 2008, a permanent memorial was set for Friedrich Zängerle due to his unwavering anti-fascist stance and his active resistance to National Socialism . In a ceremony, a stumbling block was laid for Friedrich Zängerle in front of his last residence in Rüsselsheim.
  • Because of his voluntary and social commitment, Friedrich Zängerle was proposed several times for the "Shining role models" campaign as a shining example for the city of Rüsselsheim. When Friedrich Zängerle will be immortalized for posterity in the Rüsselsheim plenary hall in the form of a light installation, a committee of culture award winners, the city council and ultimately the Rüsselsheim council of elders will have to decide.
